Reduce Bounce Rate On Your Blog

There are many factors that determine the bounce rate of a blog. This article attempts to describe some of the factors affecting bounce rate and measures to mitigate the problem. Bounce rate is technically defined as the proportion of visitors who leave a blog or website after a single page. High bounce rate could mean either of the two things: Either the page is bang on target and answers every query the visitor had, so he/she left the site or there was very little information in the page and hence the visitor left the page. The later reason seems more plausible and hence it is necessary to keep the bounce rate at an appropriate level. I personally would prefer the bounce rate to be around 25-30% as I consider this optimum.

Top Four Tips To Improve Bounce Rate

? Add Related Posts Links

This is a very important SEO technique which is not used by many. Having links to related posts on a blog brings two benefits. One, it improves the internal linking structure of the blog, thus ensuring a more equitable spread of Page Rank, and secondly it entices the viewer to visit more articles which are related to a particular topic or subject. There are many plug-in which do this job and one such plug-in for Word press is the recent post plug-in which does a great job of inserting links of all related posts in a blog.

? Use A Fast Loading Theme

One of the major reasons why people bounce of a website is long loading times. Sites which take a long time to load most likely suffer from high bounce rates. Therefore sites with plenty of images and Flash take a long time to load. It is therefore advisable not to load many images or Flash on the site. It is also preferable to use themes which load fast as this is one of the major factors which influence loading time.

? Write Substantial Articles

Although occasionally even small articles can contain valuable info, any article less than 400 words is likely to be given a miss by the visitors. Hence it is necessary to write articles this long. But more importantly the article must contain enough info to keep the reader enthused. This is likely to improve bounce rate as good article often encourage people to read more articles in the blog.

? Avoid Pop-ups

One of the most annoying features of a blog is pop-ups. Pop-ups increase loading time and also create unnecessary distraction for the visitor. Hence they are best avoided. If at all there is a requirement for a Pop up likes a email subscription form, they are best incorporated within the blog so that it loads with the blog.

By following these tips one can reduce the bounce rate of a blog. But these measures are not enough to get visitors to your blog. Your blog must consistently rank high in search engines and links are very important for this. Any blog which does not have a viable linking strategy is likely to fail. Blog commenting is one of the best linking strategies if done right and it does not cost a dime.
