How to Use Blog Statistics to Get More Traffic Even If You Are New to Blogging

Most people today start business blogs with the hope of informing people and making money while still adding value. The only way to have an effective business blog is if you drive traffic to it.

There is a whole lot that can be learned from the current visitors to your site that can ensure that you can increase your blogging traffic. There are more tools than ever to get very detailed statistics on your blogs visitors and will be discussed below.

How to get traffic statistics for your blog

Before you can use traffic statistics you will need to find these statistics first. Many of you may already have some sort of traffic analysis software, or use your hosting or blogging platforms built in user tracking.

When only using your hosting company or you blogging platform to track visitor statistics, I personally suggest that you get a more in depth analysis software. I personally recommend Google analytics which is very detailed and easy to use and is free. It is compatible with almost any blog or website and even a complete technophobe can set it up in a matter of minutes.

What to do with traffic statistics to help your blog

Google analytics and other specialist analytics software can tell you many things from the city or country your visitors are from, and what link or referring site or keyword was searched to get to your site. It even tells you what browser the visitor used to look at your blog.

Which sites are referring the traffic?

So what can you do with this information? Well, let us say a large percentage of your visitors are referred by a single site. You can see what page they saw that referred them to your site and you can look at the information and see how to duplicate or improve it. If, let us say much of your traffic came from an article directory such as Ezine articles, you know this is working and you can submit more articles or try to improve the quality of the articles etc.

What browser are they using?

You can also use statistics to identify the browsers people are using to visit your site; make sure your blog looks good and works well in that browser.

Where do your blog visitors come from?

The possibilities are huge as the amount of detailed information is enormous. If many visitors are coming from a specific country or city, you can have posts on your blog that are directed towards that city or country thereby increasing the number of visitors from there.

What words are they searching when they find your blog?

If you see that visitors are finding your blog through search engines, you can see if there are words that they are searching that you have not optimized properly, and you can target them.

It has often been said knowledge is power and this is very true on the internet. Have you used the knowledge effectively to improve your blogs traffic?
