Why You Should Own Your Own Blog

Blogging has become very popular nowadays due to 2 primary factors. The first one is that more and more people are surfing on the web and posting about every single subject imaginable. The second one is that more and more websites are making it more easier for people to start blogging with their free platform. This combination of high demand and easy access are what caused the blogging industry to boom. However, if you want to build a solid blogging business in the future, you should own your own blog and not use a free blogging platform.

In this article, we'll look into some of the reasons why you should not use a free blogging platform for your blog if you plan to use your blog in the long run.

The first one is that free blogging website does not give you many flexibility. Technically, you're not the owner of the blog itself and have minimum amount of rights on it. If they decide to take your blog down anytime, they have the rights to do so. If you have your own domain, then you have the rights for it and therefore, you have more control on your blog.

The second reason why you should own your own blog is that you are not limited in design. Most of the free blogging platform has very limited design that you can choose from. By having your blog on your own domain, you can virtually access much more design options for your blog. This will make your blog stand out more from the crowd and you'll be able to inject your personality better to it.

The third reason has to do with search engine optimization. If you notice, the URL that a free blog will give you is quite long and does not explain what your blog is all about. Most of them will have their trademark name on the URL and this is not so good for search engine optimization.

If you plan to blog in the long run then I'd advise you on getting your own domain name and build a blog on it. By quickly summarizing the three reasons above, you'll understand why. The first one is that you don't own your own blog when you use a free platform. They can take down your blog anytime they want because they have the rights to do so. The second reason is that you have more flexibility in terms of design. You virtually can choose and select an unlimited amount of design options for your blog. Lastly, owning your own domain is simply better for search engine optimization factors.
